Royal Swing Orchestra

Swinging The Kings Way

"The Royale Swing Orchestra" led by Browns Bay Big Band Leader Ross Hurley, featuring Trumpet Diva Edwina Thorne who has previously played for Tongan Royalty, performed at the new king's 59th birthday on the luxury island of Va'vau in May 2007

Last years riot and civil unrest prompted the Royal celebrations to move to Vavau and Island paradise some distance from Tonga Tapu.

This ten piece Swing Orchestra has created a repertoire to suit the Kings request which predominately centers around the 40s and 50s, namely the Swing era. No expense has been spared to cater for this auspicious occasion.

Three members of the Royale Swing Orchestra currently attend the Massey University Jazz Degree program namely: Jono Sawyer, Andrew James Hall and Kiri Kainamu-Wheeler.

Two saxophones, two trumpets and trombone with a swinging rhythm section grounded b acoustic upright bass sensation Bryan Holden, ensure their lead vocalist - visually impaired Jon Heaps, maintain a desirable atmosphere.

This tight ensemble will capture the Glenn Miller Sound and in fact the only riot anticipated on this remote tropical paradise will be the impressive sounds of the "Royal Swing Orchestra"
